Church Participation Guide

Freedom Sunday has an official date, which is the first Sunday of Lent each year, but each Sunday can be Freedom Sunday!  Use this site as an ever evolving site with information, resources,
and
ways to connect with others.

How does my church participate in Freedom Sunday?

Simply click the Sign us up link and a login and password will be sent to you to access the Resources section of the website.  A Freedom Sunday Assistant will follow up with you to get your church registered and listed on our web-based map of participating churches so our 250,000+ supporters can find your church and attend the event!

You can participate in many ways:

  • If you have only five minutes, your church can pray about the issues.
  • You can use one of our bulletin inserts.
  • Your worship band or choir can use songs that focus on the subjects of freedom, redemption, social justice issues, etc.
  • Your pastor or priest can preach on an appropriate text.
  • You can take an offering to go to a Not for Sale international project.

What is expected of my church?

Participating churches are expected to help expose the modern day slavery epidemic and provide hope in a message of the freedom that Christ provides.  Through the use of provided resources (videos, statistics, Bible study, etc.) and an inspirational message, your church can present a compelling case that Christians can lead the charge to re-abolish slavery in our lifetime, re-affirming the words that Jesus spoke proclaiming the captives be set free.

How do I and my church partner with others?

There are many ways:

  • Participating churches and individuals are encouraged to create and share resources.   Do you have prayers, liturgies, songs, sermons, art, etc?  Share them with all of us.  Send your materials to Kevin Austin.
  • If you are not yet a member of the Abolitionist Faith Community, join today!
  • Sign your church into the Underground Church Network Map: UCNmap.org.

How does my church become more involved with Not for Sale?

There is something for everyone at Not for Sale.  Not for Sale is a broad platform, enabling and encouraging all to contribute when, where, and how one is able! Students, professionals, artists, theologians, activists, contemplatives, business people, etc.  All are invited to re-abolish slavery using their time, talents, skills, finances and prayers!  Here are just a few ideas:

  • Consume differently.  Does your church have a cafe?  Are you selling fair trade coffee, chocolate, and other items?  Check out the Freedom Store and Free2work sites.
  • Learn more. Not for Sale has a wide variety of opportunities for further awareness and specific application.  Check out Not for Sale’s Academies.
  • Do more.  Hold a Free2walk event at your church.  Attend a Not for Sale event, like Global Advocacy Days. To find out more about these events contact your state’s Not for Sale Representative.

How does my church support Not for Sale Projects?

T
he monies raised will allow us to:

  • Offer safe haven to enslaved children in Peru
  • Build schools for rescued child soldiers in Uganda
  • Prevent the trafficking of thousands of Nepalese women into India’s sex industry
  • Provide medicine to hundreds of kids delivered from bondage in Thailand
  • Investigate and intervene in slavery cases in Your Backyard!

Find out more about those projects here.
